Sprint Waste Helps Area Seniors Get Hot Meals

While the onset of the coronavirus has been life changing for all of us, seniors in our area are particularly vulnerable, not only to the virus itself but also to its economic and socioeconomic effects. That’s why we’re excited to announce our support of Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, an organization that continues to serve the senior community throughout the pandemic.

As an essential organization, FB Seniors Meals on Wheels remains open and has continued its core service of delivering hot meals to home-bound seniors. While the organization’s senior center locations are temporarily closed to keep seniors safe and prevent the spread of the virus, using a contactless delivery system with extra sanitization, the organization’s staff and volunteers continue to deliver more than 1,400 meals each day.

Fort Bend Seniors serves senior citizens age 60 and over living in Fort Bend and Waller counties. Before the constraints of the pandemic, FB Seniors served active seniors at 12 congregate center locations throughout both counties, providing hot meals and daily recreation activities to help seniors stay active. Home-bound seniors received daily and weekly hot meal deliveries through a network of staff and volunteer drivers.

While the organization’s senior centers are closed, FBS continues to provide support to help seniors stay home, stay safe and stay connected. Click here for a list of resources for seniors encompassing shopping, entertainment, the arts, worship services, puzzles and crosswords, stress relief and meditation, and more. Click here for a guidance to share with seniors about how to avoid scams related to the pandemic.

Sprint Waste Services supports FB Seniors Meals on Wheels through a sponsorship of Fort Bend Salutes The Honorable Bob Hebert, an annual fundraising gala that this year celebrates the 40 years of public service of long-time Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert. Now rescheduled for Nov. 6 at Safari Texas Ranch, proceeds from the evening will benefit Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels .
