Promoting Trust Between Cops and Kids

Fort Bend County Kids & Cops is an organization Sprint Waste Services is proud to support once again this year.

“ We love supporting Kids & Cops because it hits many of the marks we value here at Sprint Waste,” said Sprint Waste President Dave Nelson. “Not only does the group promote safety, education and crime prevention geared to students, it also provides an important bridge between the community and law enforcement, teaching kids and their parents to trust police officers and first responders.”

Summer camps are the organization’s flagship program, offering low-cost summer camps to area students that promote leadership, teamwork and esteem-boosting skills. The popular summer camps fill up quickly after registration opens, a testament to their popularity and success.

But that’s not all this organization is known for in Fort Bend County. Drug prevention education is a hallmark of the Kids & Cops program. At the elementary school level, students learn about handling peer pressure, resistance techniques, consequences, risk, dealing with stress, resisting Gangs, alternatives to drug use, and making a commitment.

Middle schoolers learn about responsibility, conflict resolution, smoking truth or dare, and facts about juvenile law. The high school program continues reinforcement of the dangers of drinking and driving and teen violence.

Other programs include child fingerprinting, stranger danger, gun safety, bicycle safety, traffic safety, the 911 emergency system and other personal safety tips. All programs stress strong relationships and trust with police officers and first responders, promoting the benefits of working together to prevent crime and improve safety.
